From Distrust to Empowerment

“Enabling families to take up their role as active agents of the family apostolate calls for ‘an effort at evangelization and catechesis inside the family.’”

The greatest challenge in this situation is for couples, mothers and fathers, active participants in catechesis, to overcome the mentality of delegation that is so common, according to which that faith is set aside for specialists in religious education. This mentality is, at times, fostered by communities that struggle to organize family centered catechesis which starts from the families themselves.”

—Directory for Catechesis, no. 124

Respect Life Monthly Prayer Guide

"There is perhaps no more beautiful celebration than when parents bring their newborn child to the waters of baptism. For in baptism, we share in Christ’s death and resurrection, and through the outward signs of water and oil, are made children of God and given the hope of eternal life with Him. ..."

Common Values

"My husband and I have been married for 35 years and have led marriage preparation programs for 30 of those years. We estimate that over that time we’ve prepared over 5,000 couples for marriage. I’m not sure if that makes us experts or outdated and, therefore, irrelevant. I can tell you the obvious – that times have changed and we have changed.

Early in my career, when I taught high school or college students about marriage, I’d say that communication was the key to choosing a mate and keeping a marriage healthy. I’ve changed my mind.  Good communication is not enough ... "

"Fall is often a season of change.  The leaves on the trees change color before falling to make room for new growth.  The weather cools from the heat of the summer. Children begin school in new classrooms with new teachers.

But as you go into this next season, you must be intentional about drawing your congregation back in, or you could accidentally turn the Summer Slump into a permanent one ... "

Pope Leo to Address the Youth at

Premiere National Event

The Diocese of Scranton is sending a delegation to this year’s National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC), taking place from November 19–23. Held every two years, NCYC is the premier national event for Catholic youth, bringing together young people from across the country for a powerful, transformative encounter with Christ.

A highlight of this year’s conference will be a historic live virtual session with our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV — the first ever at NCYC. During this special event, the Pope will speak directly to the youth and answer questions from attendees.
