"What great need there is to promote an encounter with God, whose tender love values and loves the story of every person!
It is not a matter of giving hasty answers to difficult questions, but of drawing close to people, listening to them, and trying to understand together with them how to face their difficulties.
And this requires a readiness to be open, when necessary, to new ways of seeing things and different ways of acting, for each generation is different and has its own challenges, dreams and questions." |
- Message of Pope Leo XIV to seminar participants of: “Evangelizing with the Families of Today and Tomorrow: Ecclesiological and Pastoral Challenges”, organized by the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life (June 2-3, 2025). |
|
 |
"God never gives up on us; he is always ready to accept us and give meaning and hope to our lives, however hopeless our situation may seem and however insignificant our merits may appear. "

- Pope Leo XIV

The International Catholic Stewardship Council offers inspiring Stewardship Ideas for June that invite us to view our lives as opportunities for sharing, caring and nurturing the gifts we've been entrusted with. Williamsport Parishes Take a
Closer Look at Mission and Vision |
|
Parish leaders and staff from Saint Ann, Saint Boniface and Saint Joseph the Worker in Williamsport came together last weekend for a closer look into mission and vision for their Williamsport Catholic Parishes at the Sent Parish Disciple Maker Workshop.
The Sent Parish System is a structured approach, beginning with an assessment to help parishes evaluate their evangelization efforts, leading to developing a customized playbook or roadmap outlining strengths and addressing challenges.
This is followed by the Disciple Maker Workshop – a hands-on training session for parish leadership teams to deepen their understanding, foster collaboration and alignment towards a unified vision and begin developing a strategic evangelization plan together.
Following the workshop, your parish leaders receive ongoing support, accountability and guidance from Sent Parish through a series of monthly coaching groups where they problem-solve challenges, and share best practices in a dynamic, supportive environment as they begin to execute the plans they’ve put in place.
The process culminates in the Disciple Maker Parish Mission – a dynamic one-evening parish mission event to engage the broader parish community in the mission of evangelization and inspire active participation.

In 2021, St. John Newmann and St. Paul of the Cross Parishes on the south side of Scranton were linked. Over the course of 4 years, parishioners deliberated the best way to effectively maintain the Catholic presence on Scranton's South Side, considering the changing demographics, decreased Mass attendance, financial constraints and mounting deferred maintenance. Under the leadership of Fr. Jonathan Kuhar, the parishes merged in 2023 to form St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, with worship sites on Prospect Ave. (Church of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary) and Orchard St. (Church of the Nativity of Our Lord).
On Pentecost Sunday, June 8, 2024, the parish said good bye to Nativity Church. With beautiful music and a somber but inspirational liturgy befitting this magnificent sacred building, people from all over the diocese returned to pay a last visit before the doors were locked a final time.
Nativity, you have served us well! We hold your memories in our hearts.
